Hi! I’m Tanya, I am here to support, encourage, and help get you started on your practice of meditation. For 10 years, I’ve been meditating daily and have personally experienced the many benefits that meditation can offer.
I began my practice of meditation when my children were young. With 3 kids under the age of 4, I was a very busy stressed out mom, easily overwhelmed and emotionally labile. I couldn’t keep my emotions stable and my mind was buzzing with yesterdays thoughts. I had the common habit of thinking the same sort of thoughts over and over again until I was completely drained and exhausted. I was becoming increasingly unhappy and afraid of my own untrained mind. Maybe you can relate to this state of mind? I was told the solution to changing this mental habit was meditation.
The idea of meditation had appealed to me for years, but I had no idea how to begin. I found a Buddhist Temple offering meditation classes in my community. For 3 years I learned about the Buddha, his teachings, and the practice of Vipassana meditation. Meditating on your own is possible but being part of a supportive community with a live teacher is highly valuable. This is my motivation for creating PRESENT MOMENT AWARENESS, to provide ongoing support for anyone interested in starting and maintaining a daily meditation practice.
I graduated from University with a degree in nursing and worked for 13 years as an ICU nurse until I became a full-time mom. During the early years of motherhood, I started and ended each day with a meditation. I could see how the practice of daily meditation was beginning to change my inner state of being in so many positive ways. I was becoming more patient, less reactive, and experienced fewer anxious thoughts. I was feeling more optimistic and generally happier. Wanting to help others to experience this feeling of inner peace and well-being too, I completed my Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Therapy (MBSR-T) certification, and my teacher training certificate through“Mindful Schools”. Currently I am enrolled in a Two Year Mindfulness Teacher Certification Course, taught by well-known meditation teachers Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.
I read anything on meditation and spirituality. I don’t belong to any one particular religion or philosophy, I enjoy reading and learning from both the ancient Eastern Spiritual Masters as well as present day teachers. My biggest influences are Ramana Maharshi, Tara Brach, A Course in Miracles, Eckhart Tolle, Byron Katie, and the Diamond Approach just to name a few.
There are many ways I can support you on your journey to inner peace. Check out the many services offered. Let’s meet in the present moment!
It is my mission to assist and support anyone interested in beginning and maintaining a mindfulness meditation practice. I am not affiliated with any one religion or tradition. I teach mindfulness in a way that appeals to anyone looking for inner peace and Self awareness. I can’t wait to meet you in the present moment!
Tanya, whom I’ve known for years is amazing. The morning meditations are both energizing and calming. She has a tremendous breath of knowledge and really prepares for the sessions. I enjoy them and find the ZOOM on-line meditation venue a great way to experience calm and camaraderie with the other participants. Her voice is a gift to us all and I try to attend whenever I can. She brings 'mindfulness' to every meditation and talk; I always feel better and my head is cleared afterwards. For both experienced meditators and the novice, she has it all!
Tanya’s teaching of mindfulness practice has been a wonderful experience for students in our Grade 6 classroom. Not only have they been exposed to breathing and meditative strategies that have helped them focus on existence in the moment, but they have learned to practice mindful thinking, dialoguing, emotional connection with each other, and mindful movements. Our weekly visits were eagerly anticipated, and overall they provided a grounding and calming effect for our classroom.
Thank you so much Tanya for volunteering your time to teach the grade 3s (and myself) about the ways to be mindful. You taught us ways to incorporate mindfulness into our daily routine. Through your teachings, myself and the students have learned quick and efficient way to be mindful. Making time for a few minutes of mindfulness in the class, is a quick way to get the class refreshed and ready for learning during a busy day. I will be implementing what I’ve learned throughout my teaching career, and the students will as well.
Since beginning Mindfulness with Tanya, I feel I have become more tolerant towards the students I teach, and more attentive towards the needs of my colleagues. The techniques Tanya uses in her mindfulness sessions, have been very useful when dealing with stressful situations in the classroom. Taking a few seconds to relax, breathe, and focus, allows me to resolve a negative situation calmly and peacefully, rather than allowing it to escalate and effect the classroom climate to a greater extent.
A friend of mine introduced me to Tanya and her wonderful guided group meditation sessions almost 2 years ago and I have been gratefully going ever since. Tanya’s energy surrounds you with love, direction and dedication on the spiritual journey for which we all hunger on this earthly path. Tanya looks for meaning in a very deep and profound way and is overflowing with the desire to share all that she has learned and discovered on her own path. Personally, I find it very stimulating to spend time in a small group with like-minded people and each session is a gift that last much longer than a Pedicure! You won’t be disappointed!
I give Tanya the highest recommendation possible. She has been my guide and gateway into the life-changing practice of mindfulness. As a psychiatrist, I have seen firsthand the incredible value of mindfulness in reducing anxiety, depression, and in teaching people to focus on the present moment. In my own personal life, Tanya’s guided mindfulness practices have been a vital component of my own coping, healing, and re-centering as I have been moving through some very challenging times. It is with my deepest respect and appreciation that I would recommend Tanya to anyone who is looking to refocus and thrive in their life.
